The Lumenis Quantum Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) system is a breakthrough treatment suitable to correct a variety of facial skin imperfections such as broken veins, red blemishes, blood spots, birthmarks, sun spots, age spots, pigmentation marks, sun damage, freckles, red acne scarring and other blemishes, it can also be utilized in the management of roseaca (a skin condition resulting in redness and inflammation). It offers a safe, non invasive solution that can be customized to your individual skin type, providing superior cosmetic results and outstanding satisfaction.
HOW DOES IPL WORK?
The special wavelength of light is beamed onto the skin where it can penetrate to the deeper layers of the skin, targeting pigmentation and small superficial blood vessels. This deep penetration of the light also stimulates collagen production in your skin. What you’ll end up with is a much more even skin colour and texture. This treatment is so effective it can be used on almost any skin type; even the most delicate of skins tolerate the treatment very well.
This treatment is not just for the face, we often use this technology to treat the neck, chest and hands if there’s any problem pigmentation, sun damage, red acne scarring or broken capillaries present. The number of treatments required depends on the condition of your skin. Most people require an average of three to four treatments, spaced over a couple of months. Some people will only need one. Once you have completely your treatment sessions we will advised you on the best way to protect the skin. In most cases a maintenance treatments are recommended once a year to ensure long lasting results.
WHAT HAPPENS DURING TREATMENT?
A cold gel is applied to the treatment area and you will be asked to wear goggles to protect your eyes from the light. The hand piece is then placed on the skin, as the pulses of light are applied you will feel a sting or pinch, like the snapping of a rubber band. You will feel heat in your skin for a short period of time afterwards.
WHAT SKIN CONCERNS CAN PHOTO REJUVENATION TREAT?
Sun Damage/ Age Spots/ Sun Spots/ Freckles/ Pigmentation:
Melanin is the pigment in our skin. Due to a number of factors, including sun exposure, ageing and hormonal changes, the production of melanin can become inconsistent leading to brown spots or marks. These blemishes can now be effectively reduced with this photo-rejuvenation procedure. Treatment is suitable for commonly affected areas such as face, hands, arms and chest.
Broken Veins/ Roseaca/ Vascular Blemishes/ Red Acne Scarring:
The face has an extensive network of tiny blood vessels. Over time, ageing, trauma, sun exposure, lifestyle, hormonal and heredity factors can cause some of these vessel walls to break down appearing as red streaks or blemishes. Broken veins are a common problem for both men & women. These blemishes can now be easily eliminated in a few quick sessions with minimal discomfort and healing.
Some but not all birthmarks can be treated depending on the depth of the vessels. We recommend a patch test on the concerned area to asses if the vessels response to treatment is adequate.
WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE AFTERWARDS?
Following treatment the downtime required will vary depending on the specific concern being treated. Depending on the severity of the skin concern being treated the temporary after effects can range from mild redness for a few hours to inflammation and bruising for a few days. As the treatment is non-invasive make-up can be applied immediately afterwards if required. At your initial consultation your skin specialist will assess your skin type and give you a time frame needed for downtime following your treatment session.
